What is ORA?

Optiwave® Refractive Analysis, known as ORA, is a revolutionary diagnostic device designed to allow surgeons to measure and verify lens calculations and astigmatism correction in real time during cataract surgery. This technology is one of the most significant technological breakthroughs in cataract care in the last 20 years. Whitsett Vision Group is proud to offer ORA technology to patients during their cataract procedure.

The ORA is attached to the surgical microscope, and uses wavefront aberrometry to measure the refractive error in the eye once your cataract is removed. The ORA takes approximately 40 instantaneous calculations to measure the refractive power of the eye, which allows the surgeons at Whitsett Vision Group to verify the proper lens implant power, astigmatism correction, and IOL placement. With ORA technology, our patients get truly customized cataract surgery.

ORA technology can be very helpful for all cataract patients, but it is particularly beneficial for patients who have had more challenging calculations when determining the power for their custom lens implant, such as previous LASIK or RK patients, or patients with significant myopia, hyperopia, and/or astigmatism.

Modern cataract surgery is considered to be one of the most successful surgical procedures performed today. When you consider the benefits of ORA technology, and combine those with the experience Whitsett Vision Group cataract surgeons and advanced lens implant technology, there is no better time to have cataract surgery.

Our staff and surgeons will perform advanced diagnostic testing, and review your lifestyle and visual goals after surgery to determine which advanced technology lens is right for you. Depending on the lens implant you and your surgeon choose, your treatment plan may include the use of ORA Technology.
