Ophthalmology Technician needed for busy Physician’s Practice in Spring area.
Summary:
The Ophthalmic Technician is a key member of the clinic staff that provides support to the Physicians of the practice by completing the initial patient history record as well as general and specific visual testing. Assists with contact lens fitting and instructions to patients. Prepares for and assists Physicians with in-office procedures.
Some Saturday morning wok may be required. Local travel will be required.
Selected Responsibilities:
Opens all exam rooms, turns on all equipment, logs into EHR system, and calibrates machines as needed Prints daily schedule Cleans rooms in-between patients and keeps dilation room clean Checks phone messages for assigned extensions at end of AM and PM Clinic. Checks work emails at least twice per day, Checks front desk for any packages/deliveries Checks patient portal as assigned Obtains medical prior authorization for outpatient diagnostic testing Faxes chart notes to referring OD or MD as assigned Patient requests for refills; antibiotic, steroids, and anti –inflammatory drops and steroid medication need to be discussed with the prescribing doctor before medication is approved or denied Obtains medication prior authorizations far enough in advance to ensure that the patient receives their medications timely Checks Tech box after clinic (includes doctor’s notes, perception refills, etc…) patients notes need to be placed in the doctor’s folders to review and signature Checks EHR task box, accepts all tasks assigned from MDI. If tasking to a doctor, highlight important tasks that are sent to them. Closes rooms- wipes down chair, slip lamp, phoropter, and chairs and counter area with sanitizer. Shuts down all computers and equipment, covers all equipment Sterilizes surgical instruments; sets up for in office procedures; ensures all areas are cleaned. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent Minimum of 2 years’ experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist office; certification a plus Experience with setting up and assisting Physicians with in-office procedures Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus Knowledge of basic medical terminology Advanced knowledge of Nextech EHR or similar database application, Microsoft office software, the Internet and other software products as needed; vision evaluation equipment Outstanding customer service skills
Physical Characteristics:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, bend, squat, and kneel as necessary. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Auditory acuity should be sufficient as to adequately monitor patient and visitor activity.
